By mobile are you ready? I don’t mean, do you have a cell phone because most people do!
By mobile I am talking about your website and your social media presence, does your website work on a mobile device, can people easily see your content on a cell phone or tablet? Phones and tablets are different sizes and therefore you need a website that can scale to show your content easily on any size of device from desktop to cell phone.
I’ll come back to the website in a minute but check out below some statistics on social media and Web.
Social Media Today on Mobile is not something that is coming it is here right now. 78% of Facebook user access Facebook and 60% of Twitter users access Twitter through their cell phone. Page views on LinkedIn are up 250% in 2013 and 40% of YouTube views in the US are on mobile devices.
Websites on Mobile
80% of users plan to conduct some form of commerce through a mobile device in the next 12 months. Of those, 57% of users say they would not recommend a business with a poorly designed mobile site. Not having an optimized website is like closing your store down 1 day a week.
Is Your Digital Presence Mobile?
So back to the Website presence, firstly does your website work on a phone or a tablet? Some sites have a mobile version and some are what is called responsive web sites.
So what is a responsive web site? A responsive web site design is an approach aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing experience—easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling across a wide range of devices. The great thing is that you don’t have to worry about doing anything special to make your website work on a cellphone or a desktop!
If you use WordPress you can go buy a responsive theme, which is a theme that will auto size based on the platform it is being viewed on. This Blog is built on a Studio Press Theme, and there are 100’s of themes to choose from. You can install these yourself or get a professional to build it for you. This will give you a Webiste that will be responsive and work on mobile devices as well as desktops.

Anybody who has a business and is using Facebook for your business is bombarded on how to use Facebook. There are a 1001 Facebook guru’s out there who can explain how you can use Facebook to promote your business. Don’t get me wrong there is some really good cool stuff done by very successful people. As a small business owner you are not a Facebook guru and you probably don’t have the time to sit and do the work required, let alone sit through all the training.
On Facebook you have your Facebook Home Page and you have “fan” pages that can be created around anything you pretty much want. For the small business owner you need to create a “Fan” page so they can use it to promote your business. After all you don’t want all your Facebook Friends who are normally your friends and family getting bombarded with stuff about your business. You don’t want to be known as the family spammer.
So the easiest thing to do is create your business page and make sure the picture is relevant and is going to help people identify with you and your business. When you post to your business page don’t post one line status updates, post Facebook Photos and useful content that would help people.
Link Your Website and Facebook Business Page
If you have a Website make sure people can find your Facebook page from your website. Facebook provides buttons that you easily put on your website and will allow people to easily LIKE your page.
Facebook Pay Per Click
Pay per click on Facebook can be very successful if used write but before you go pushing that button saying get more fans or boost my page find out a little more about it. Like all advertising you can spend lots of money and not get the results you are looking for.
